New Jersey-based artist, Shag, is about to take the industry by storm, and here’s why we need to get him on our playlist now. After impressing his fans with the release of ‘My Lil Treeshy’ which gained over 1500 streams, in its first month, with NO marketing or label, Shag is back with his newest release ‘Wood Talk’ which is one of his biggest hits yet!
Before we go into the details of his newest releases, here’s why Shag is the perfect rapper… With strengths consisting of a strong and determined mindset, Shag is always seeking to become the best version of himself and we first saw this in teen Shag. After a bad acid trip that left him questioning his worth the young teenager went cold turkey and put all his focus on basketball, he trained with what he had for two years before landing in the state championships for a small city that hadn’t won since 1977. After seeing the results Shag knew he was destined for greatness.
However, after years of wanting more, he was led back into the drug life and was caught up in a situation with the police a few years ago that almost got him a one-way ticket to juvie, since then his focus has been on music, and just like his determination with basketball we’re seeing the power he can portray with his newest releases.
‘Wood Talk’ is one of Shag’s strongest songs, since releasing his first in May 2022, and since then he’s gained recognition for being insanely talented for a beginner. ‘Wood Talk’ isn’t its deepest track, but it focuses on how sometimes life can just come to a pause and this can lead to smoking with friends to fill that void. Like many artists, Shag doesn’t shy away from the realities of drug abuse in his songs, but as we see more of the aspiring artist we see how his songs tell the defining story of him in his early stages.
It’s evident to see that Shag is an artist that can evoke the rapper community and with many new hits planned to be released over the next few months, we’ll be seeing a lot more from the rapper fighting for his place in the music industry.
