The audience who are ignorant of the difficulty and difficulties encountered by independent artists in this competitive musical environment should hear a story from our editorial staff. Many artists have come to the top by doing all the work themselves, as we have seen. Nothing is left untouched in the race to seize the industrial throne, from production to promotion.
One such artist from Toronto, Canada’s richly cultural Jane-Finch Community is the one we are introducing to you today. His parents were Ghanaian immigrants, and today their son is a music producer who makes Toronto proud.
Terence Penny is the man’s name.
At the age of twenty, Terence made the most significant choice of his life. His desire to support himself through music and the development of his love for music is both fascinating tales. He struggled to understand and express the events that were taking place in his life, and that is when he discovered music. He found enjoyment in music, and music gave him life. He used music to communicate his emotions, and it was at that point that he understood that this is what he was meant to do.
He has produced a number of works that inspire and energize the audience. He admitted that “TP- The EP2” is his favorite during our most recent conversation with him.
He is very well recognized for the majority of his works, and the public adores and appreciates him for his creativity. He frequently begins with the beat because it gives him inspiration. He begins writing songs when he hears a beat, but the beat is different every time. Writing to a beat can occasionally take some time. Days or even months may pass since all the necessary components must be present for a musical work of art.
There are times when he works faster than light, usually when he is featured in a music video.
Being an independent musical artist is challenging, but it provides Penny the opportunity to have total control over his whole body of work. That being said he’s open to working with labels as he continues to develop his craft.
To this Penny adds, “Being an independent musical artist is challenging, but it provides Penny the opportunity to have total control over his whole body of work. He occasionally feels as though a huge label is supporting him. I know we all talk about owning masters because of Nipsey and many other artists before him, but what if your master doesn’t currently amount to anything? he continues. In other words, while I wouldn’t argue a label is always bad, it isn’t always positive. Finding people who share your vision and want to contribute in a significant way is the benefit of being independent, which actually relies on how much work you want to put in.”
His music has been a part of two international Award-winning films namely “With you Always” & “R.I.S.E”
Terence Penny inspires everyone to never stop writing and try till the end. His journey and his music are worth checking out. By tapping on the links below, enter the world of the Toronto Star.
